About

Spören

Spören is a live collaboration between Njordlyd (Carsten Faarvang, Denmark) and WAAS (Hans van der Maas, the Netherlands). The name carries traces of its origins — in Danish, spor means track, trace, or mark left behind.

The music

Carsten plays synth, effects and samples. Hans plays accordion and synth. Together they build something that sits between soundscape, ambient music and free improvisation — atmospheric, textural, unhurried.

Each piece is built from a shared structure, but remains open. The music is shaped in the moment, different every time, yet always carrying the same atmosphere. What you hear depends on where you are, when you are there, and what the room brings.

An experience, not a catalogue

Spören is not primarily a recording project. What we make exists most fully as a live event — something that happens in a specific place, at a specific moment, between the musicians and the people in the room. The candlelit church, the industrial space, the gallery — the setting is always part of the music.

If we record, it will be to document a moment, not to replace it. A live recording from a specific night, in a specific place, is the most honest thing we can offer.

Conversations with Persons

Our current performance is called Conversations with Persons. It explores conversation and communication through sound — how it feels before it is understood, how atmosphere carries meaning before language does. Even without words, even without recognising what you are hearing, the experience of sound in a room is already saying something.

You are welcome to sit and listen. You are equally welcome to come and go.
